Chaplain Bill Robinson
appears second from the right with his ministry team after
Easter Sunrise Services 2007. On Bill’s right is CPT Mark
Andrews and PFC Jessica Monigold. To his left, SSG Strong.
Bill describes the location in Iraq as being at Abraham’s
house in Ur of the Chaldeans.
Bill has always been
drawn toward the Military. As a child he was in Scouting,
Naval Sea Cadets and the Civil Air Patrol. He enlisted in
the Army 20 years ago as a Combat Engineer and served for 15
years – 10 years active duty. He never planned to attend
college. Retire on 20 looked like the way to go. During
Desert Storm and walking in mine fields and clearing
bunkers, Bill began to question his mortality. You might
say, a strange thing happened on the way through a mine
field, Bill met the person of Jesus Christ. As his faith
grew so did his desire to serve God. The decision was made
to leave the Military, go to a Bible College and then to
Seminary. Bill wanted to be a Chaplain not just in name,
but a Chaplain that would always be where he was needed – a
Chaplain that would be so well known by the troops that they
would recognize his voice in the dark of night. Bottom
line, Bill’s focus is to be with the troops and serve God
and Country.
He shares a recent
experience. . . “One of our rout clearing teams was
preparing to link up with one of our convoys when it hit an
EFP...it penetrated the vehicle and amputated the gunner’s
right arm…as the soldiers were getting the wounded troop out
for med-evac tension was high to say the least, but the
wounded soldier--who was missing an arm said, 'It's gonna be
alright—just pray'…as the soldiers were praying and the
helicopter arrived one of those troops praying pulled out
one of the prayer coins you sent us and gave it to the
wounded troop who was being med-evac-ed…that gesture meant
the world to the injured troop and everyone involved with
the incident…thanks for your support it has a real impact.”
